Getting started
Which devices can scan?
Scanning needs a LiDAR sensor: iPhone 12 Pro / Pro Max or a newer Pro model, or an iPad Pro from 2020 onwards. On any other iPhone or iPad you can still draw plans by hand, edit them and export them. Only camera scanning is unavailable.
How do I scan a home?
Tap Scan Now and walk the room slowly, pointing the camera at the walls, corners and floor edges. Continue room by room and the rooms join into one plan. When the scan finds a staircase, the app offers to start the next floor. A home can have up to four floors.
Tips for a good scan
- Open interior doors before you start, and turn the lights on.
- Move slowly. A room takes a minute or two.
- Avoid pointing at strong sunlight, mirrors and large glass walls, which confuse the sensor.
- Before you leave the property, use the Before You Leave checklist so nothing needs a second visit.
Editing
How do I correct a wall to an exact length?
Tap the wall, then Length, and type the length you measured with a laser. The wall resizes immediately. You can also drag corners and walls, and use Straighten Walls & Outdoor to square up a scan in one go.
The scan missed something. How do I add it?
Use Add (bottom right in the editor) to place doors, windows, stairs, fixtures, outdoor spaces and text notes. Doors, windows and stairs need a wall to attach to.
How do I name rooms or change their colours?
Kitchens, bathrooms, bedrooms and laundry rooms are named automatically from what the scan finds in them. Tap a room's name on the plan to rename it, set its ceiling height or pick its colour. App-wide colours, including a black-and-white style, are in Settings.
Exports and credits
What can I export?
- Home Report: one PDF with a cover, a property summary, the floor-area method and a plan of each floor.
- Floor plans: PDF, PNG or JPEG, one floor or all of them.
- CAD Bundle: a zip with DXF drawings for CAD programs and a 3D model (OBJ, DAE and USDZ).
How do credits work?
Scanning and editing are always free. One credit unlocks one property: after that, every export of that home (Home Report, plan images, CAD Bundle), as often as you like and after any edit, is free and has no watermark. Your first property is free, with a small watermark. Credits are bought inside the app, 1, 5 or 20 at a time, and they don't expire. The app always asks before it uses a credit.
Will I lose my credits if I delete the app or change phone?
No. Your balance is kept in your device's secure keychain, so it survives deleting and reinstalling the app. If you use iCloud Keychain, it also follows you to your other iPhone or iPad signed in to the same Apple ID.
How do I get a refund?
Purchases are processed by Apple, so refunds are requested from Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com.
Measurements
How accurate are the plans?
LiDAR scans are usually accurate to within a few centimetres, and you can correct any wall to a laser-measured length. Plans and floor areas are for presentation and marketing. They are not a substitute for a professional survey or a legal floor-area measurement.
Which floor-area method does the report use?
Choose your country in Settings. The report then follows the method commonly used there (for example ANSI Z765 in the US, BBR in Denmark or Carrez in France) and says on the report what it measured and what it couldn't check. Countries without their own method use the international IPMS standard. Tap the ⓘ button in the editor to see how a floor's area was worked out.
Metres or feet?
Settings › Units. You can show metres, feet and inches, or both. Plans are stored in metres, so switching back and forth never changes your data.
Projects
Are my projects backed up?
When iCloud Drive is on for Scan4Plan, projects are kept in your iCloud account and appear on your other devices. Settings shows whether backup is on. You can also long-press a project and choose Export Project to save a copy as a file, and bring it back with Import project.
Which languages does the app support?
English, Danish, Dutch, Finnish, French, German, Icelandic, Italian, Norwegian, Portuguese, Spanish and Swedish. The app follows your iPhone's language.
